Genre: Historical fiction
Publishing Date: 1958
Language: Amharic
This Amharic e-book titled "Yetangut Mistir" is published back in the 1950s by author Birhanu Zerihun. Many say this book is one of the few masterpiece historical fictions published and loved by many. The fiction is written based on the life of the late Ethiopian Emperor Atse Tewodros. It has 228 pages. It has a total of seven Chapters.
Chapter 1:
Starting from Atse Fasil monarchy, Gondar was used to be the center of power, social movements and starting from the new Atse Tewodros's system, to accustom his new commanders with the new troops, he was worried and confused as if he received a new honorable guest or as if he is hosting a wedding.
However, the messed social relationship can't be resolved and couldn't be. Gondar has sprout out completely new social structures and fruit since it was founded.
A city is like cultivated land. It creates new social thinking, new life and fruits from social lifestyles and if not weeded out it will produce unwanted things. If the arable land is not treated with care, weeds will dominate and create useless seeds. It will be uncultivated land. Gondar city's social life become stagnant as weed dominated land; with no fruit for one hundred thirty years.
When Fasil founded Gondar, the troops was new to refreshment, not bored for their tasks, not lazy by seeking comfort and was always ready for new orders. They have purpose. They were punishing by moving from place to place those who cause civil disobedience and unrest due to religious reasons. Troublemakers were announced. Peace was guarded. In addition, there was a new Catholic missionary from the commanders who preach, denounce or bless his spiritual life and stand besides them by holding a cross. The crowned, the crowners, the commanders and the preachers social life and thinking was guided with the same marching spirit. Fasil was building his castles and churches by considering it as a sign of his earthly and eternal powers because of this same spirit. However, he did not imagine at that time that this will be used for new beginnings to spring out.
Around the beautiful buildings new bars started to be opened. Around the churches new priests started to gather who spread rumors and prayers. Around the castle indecent soldiers start court women as a weed. In every places new beauties' start to play with the princes by wearing perfumes.
As Gondar city started to develop, shine and populated because of new churches built by kings who base in Fasil, so has increased the social lifestyles and social crisis come to widen. This social crisis has been intensified during the era of kings (Zemene Mesafint).
Even the buildings have been come old. Some buildings crumbled; doors fallen to become birds nests.
Every prince was conspiring in the night and sent to prison or hidden when caught in his third day after knighted. As power changes as the winds and knighthood lasts honesty and treachery can't be permanent. It changes by weighing the gesture and judgement.
